BOA'S TIPS

Prescription bottles make good match safes.

Propane/butane tanks that are full when they are packed, will unexplainably empty themselves before you can reach the campsite.

Save inner cardboard tubes from kitchen and toilet rolls, stuff with waste
paper and use as fire-lighters.

The guitar of the noisy teenager at the next campsite makes excellent kindling.

The sun sets three-and-a-half times faster than normal when you're trying to set up camp.

Jalama’s Beach Camping

By Chris Carrico
Located about an hour north of Santa Barbara (just south of Lompoc,) Jalama Beach is one of the coolest campgrounds that I’ve been to in years.  The combination of the great beach, on-site store/café, individual and group sites and its remote location make this a one of a kind camping experience.

Ventura County's Sporfishing Hot Spot
By Chris Carrico
Sportfishing off the coast of Southern California gets no easier or more fun than Channel Islands Sportfishing.  Located between LA and Santa Barbara, in the city of Oxnard, Channel Islands Sportfishing offers a fleet of 9 boats ranging from ½ day to full day open party excursions as well as boats dedicated to private charters.  We were invited to go out with them on their 65 foot Gentleman for a ¾ day trip.  Upon arriving at the tackle shop at 5AM, we were greeted by Doug, the boat’s owner.  He was very helpful in getting us set up for the trip, supplying us with a rental rod, fishing licenses and the appropriate tackle suggested for this trip.
